The Mining Faculty as an independent structural unit of the Institute was formed in 1905. Over the years of work, in accordance with the requirements of the time, the structure of the faculty has repeatedly changed, departments, laboratories have changed, the most popular specialties and areas of scientific research have been singled out. At the same time, the main goals and objectives of the Mining Faculty remained unchanged: training world-class engineering personnel for the mining industry; performance of research works that contribute to the technological development of the mineral resource complex.
At present, the Mining Faculty unites 4 departments, scientific and educational laboratories, which allow implementing educational programs of higher education, advanced training and professional retraining of managers and specialists, training candidates and doctors of sciences, as well as performing research work in the field of development of deposits of solid minerals ; industrial safety and labor protection at the enterprises of the mineral resource complex; explosive case; geoecology and engineering environmental protection.
