The Faculty of Civil Engineering was established in 2012 as a result of the renaming of the Faculty of Underground Space Development, which was formed in 1995 by merging the mine surveying and mine construction faculties.
In 1773, during the creation of the Mining School, 7 classes were established, including the class of mine surveying art.

As a structural unit of the institute, the mine surveying faculty was formed in 1933. Prior to that, since 1930, there was a geophysical-mine surveying faculty, its first dean and subsequently the first dean of the mine surveying faculty was Professor I. M. Bakhurin. - Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Subsequently, the deans were: Professor Pyatlin M.P. (1940 - 1957), professor Ushakov I.N. (1957 - 1969), Professor Stenin N.I. (1969 - 1990), associate professor Pavlov S.P. (1990 - 1995).

The Faculty of Mine Construction was established in 1948 on the initiative of Professor B.V. In the future, the deans of the faculty were: Professor Semevsky V.N. (1957 - 1960), associate professor Andreev A.A. (1960 - 1964), professor Evangulov B.B. (1964 - 1965), associate professor Bratus I.M. (1967 - 1972), associate professor Timofeev O.V. (1972 - 1977), professor Smirnyakov V.V. (1977 - 1989), Professor Ogorodnikov Yu.N. (1965 - 1967, 1989 - 1994), Professor Trushko V.L. (1994 - 1997), Professor Gorshkov L.K. (1997 - 2001), Professor Protosenya A.G. (2001-2020), since 2020 the faculty has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Demenkov P.A.
