Geological Exploration Faculty

The Geological Prospecting Department of St. Petersburg Mining University is currently not only an All-Russian, but also a World “brand”, symbolizing the quality and high level of the scientific and pedagogical geological school. The Faculty of Geological Exploration occupies a leading position in Russia in filling the shortage of personnel in production. The geological school, which determined the creation in 1918 of the geological exploration department, was formed from the first years of the existence of the Mining Institute and played a leading role in the development of domestic geology. Its origins were the first mining engineers - widely and comprehensively educated people, specialists in the field of geology and mining, thanks to whose activities the foundation of the country's mineral resource base was laid.
