In the process of training in this area of studies, students learn the basic concepts and structural features of construction metals, non-metallic and other types of materials; dependence of their properties on the structure and composition; as well as physical essence of the phenomena occurring in materials under conditions of external impacts and operation. They learn to choose proper materials for the manufacture of products for various purposes in accordance with the operational, technological and economic requirements; evaluate changes in the mechanical properties of materials under the influence of external influences, e.g., plastic deformation, heat processing. They get acquainted with new developments in the creation of new structural materials, master the technological methods of obtaining and processing work materials and machine parts, the area of their rational use; typical technological equipment, tools and accessories; learn to independently choose the method of manufacturing blanks and machine parts, depending on the operating conditions; as well as master skills about the prospects for the development of basic technological processes of machine-building production.
Constantly growing demand on the job market for qualified materials science specialists;
Students have the opportunity take internships at production companies which simplifies career growth and makes it more rapid;
A materials science specialist with the necessary qualifications can count on a highly paid position in the cross-cutting professional activities in the field of materials science of the technological cycle of materials, as well as in research and development in the field of materials and technology;
The work of materials science specialists is multifaceted and includes research and technological activities.
Graduates of this specialization can work in the development, research, modification and use of materials of inorganic and organic nature for various purposes, the processes of obtaining materials, blanks, semi-finished products, parts and products, as well as their quality management for various areas of engineering and technology (engineering and instrumentation, aviation and space technology, nuclear energy, nanoindustry, medical equipment, sports and household appliances). The graduates are employed as heat treatment operators for working with electric heating furnaces; heat treatment operators for chemical heat treatment (nitriding, cementation, carbonitriding); process engineers.
